Medical-Surgical Team in Ouanaminthe, Haiti
during the January 12th Earthquake

A 15 member team from 8 different states miraculously came together and were in place working at Univer Centre Medical when the earthquake occurred. Over 30 surgeries were completed during the week of January 11th to January 15th.   By Thursday, the team began evaluating and treating patients from the earthquake area over 100 miles away.
Pictured right is Dr Roger Jurich treating the1st earthquake victim to arrive at the clinic. The terrified youngster was brought to the clinic by relatives seeking medical attention.
Dr Douglas Brown, Mayo Clinic radiologist, examined the same quake victim with ultrasound equipment recently made navailable at the clinic.  Dr Brown performed over 80 ultrasounds during the week as well as providing in-service training for UCM Staff physicians.
Kristi McClanahan, RN from the Washington DC area, assisted a recovering patient in the postoperative unit.
This post-surgery patient came from Port Au Prince and had arrived at the clinic just hours before the quake.  Not only was her surgery very successful but her life very well may have been spared by her journey to seek medical care at Univers Centre Medical.
